My range of services is broad, but most clients want to utilise my SEO and e-commerce expertise. You can do it on a basis that suits your business.

Which systems can I provide my SEO services for?

I can work on almost any website system, be it an e-commerce site or purely informational. Common systems that I work on include:

Shopify, Adobe Commerce and Magento, Woocommerce, WordPress, Umbraco (and Umbraco Commerce), Zen Cart, PrestaShop, Squarespace, Wix, Drupal, Joomla, Contentful, Concrete5 and BigCommerce.

I can also work on custom-coded sites. Ultimately, after 25 years, I have performed SEO on most web platforms.

Why is an independent SEO consultant better for clients?

I have no affiliation or partnerships with any platform provider or other company. This allows me to give you completely impartial advice.

You will always receive advice that is, in my opinion, in your best interests. It might surprise you to know that companies that aren’t independent will often receive commission from platforms. That can be a significant factor in the advice they give you.

If you want me to work with partner companies you have contracts with, I can. This includes design agencies, web developers, hosting companies or other providers. I’ll always be able to give you my opinion in an open, honest and transparent manner.

Can I help you improve your Google rankings?

It’s the classic and most commonly asked question. If you’re looking to improve your site, products or service rankings on Google Search (known as SERPs), I can help you.

I’ve worked in SEO for decades and my techniques and skills are at an advanced level. I am conversant with every aspect of SEO, including on-page, off-page, server-side and all technical SEO skills, including coding.

I can identify problems with your website structure, tell you what needs to be done to rectify them and guide you on how to build on a solid foundation.

There can often be a huge number of items to be worked on, but many clients opt for what is known as Retained SEO; that’s a service I provide that gives you continued SEO work on your site for a fixed monthly fee.

I have an excellent track record of improving the visibility of sites, generating the traffic (visitors) you want and turning that into conversion (sales). You can take confidence that I’ve worked on small service-only sites to national retailer e-commerce sites for major brands with thousands of products, always delivering improved results.

I have a completely transparent approach to the service I offer, will never over-promise and I’ll always give you honest and realistic expectations.

SEO isn’t a magic wand. For new sites, getting visibility takes time, often a long time (but I always try to exploit opportunities I can find for you). For sites that have been online for some time, you’ll frequently find that major improvements can be made more quickly, but it is a science and not a black art, and I’ll tell you what you need to do to aid the process.

Can I guarantee that your rankings will improve?

Nobody should give you a guarantee that your website rankings will improve. If anyone says that to you, I strongly recommend that you avoid using their SEO services.

It is impossible to predict what your competitors will do, how much more resources they might have, and there are multiple other factors why you should never be given guarantees in SEO.

However, most consistent and continued SEO will deliver improved rankings if the agency or consultant approaches your projects professionally and have enough experience to know all of the elements that are required to achieve the results you want.

Unfortunately, the SEO industry has obtained a poor reputation. Spam emails and false promises are to be treated with extreme caution and I’ll only ever given you honest and transparent advice that is in your interests.

The fact I am completely independent is a major advantage to you. I don’t receive commission from platforms I might recommend, so you’ll always receive completely impartial opinion.

I give you a promise that I will be committed to your projects and you’ll benefit from decades of experience in SEO, web, technology and senior commercial positions.

Can I can provide services without long term commitment?

I offer SEO audits, where I identify issues that prevent sites from ranking more highly. I also provide SEO fixes, where I fix the problems. They’re one-off services and you’re not committed to using me on a monthly basis.

An SEO audit comes with my recommendations for resolving any issues (if there are no issues, I’ll tell you). SEO fixes can then be arranged if you want to, but you don’t necessarily need them all done at once. I sometimes recommend you phase the process (for technical and SEO purposes).

The combination of an SEO audit followed by fixes can often yield dramatic results. However, the best performing businesses recognise that SEO isn’t a one-off process. These services will help get you on the right track.

Can I help you choose the right e-commerce platform?

This service can save you tens of thousands of pounds. You’d be astonished how many businesses opt for an e-commerce platform (Shopify, Wix, WordPress with Woocommerce etc.) without realising that it might not be the best fit for their business, products and what they want to achieve.

Each platform has pros and cons, and I offer a consulting service that cuts out weeks and months of pain in finding out which is the best for your business. I find out what your business does, what you want to do online, how you want things to appear for your visitors and what you want the buying process to be like.

That puts me in a position to begin the process of advising you on the best choice for your business. This service can come in the form of consulting calls only, or a longer process and report, it’s entirely up to you.

If you’ve got nothing more than a handful of questions about the limitations, advantages and disadvantages of the platforms you’re considering, I will still help you.

What if you only want generic digital marketing advice?

My SEO, e-commerce, Google Local (business listings) and paid-for ads expertise can be combined, including my social media consulting too, to give you a service that is best described as full digital marketing consulting.

You tell me what you’re doing at present, or what you’ve heard or been told you should be doing. I’ll tell you whether it is the best choice for your business. I frequently hear businesses say they’ve been told a particular platform has worked wonders for another company, but it might be completely inappropriate for them.

It’s a great way of getting the benefit of my decades of experience and similar to having an in-house Digital Marketing Director. Furthermore, you pay by the hour and can stop whenever you want to.

You’ve got a well ranked e-commerce site with low sales?

In this scenario you need my CRO (Conversion Rate Optimisation). I examine your e-commerce site and find the barriers to sale. What is it that is preventing your visitors from buying?

Occasionally, I can complete this quickly if I immediately spot something that I immediately know will hamper conversion. However, it can also take much longer process if I need to dig more deeply into the UI (User Interface, how your site is structured) and the UX (User Experience, what the visitors actually experience on your site).

CRO can bring about the complete transformation of a business, but it can also result in you being told that there are no obvious barriers and that you might need to look more closely at what you’re offering in comparison to your competitors. However, you’ll get honesty and firm recommendations from me.

Which social media channels should you be using and how?

I’ve advised some of the biggest organisations in the world on social media use. This includes UK central government and the world’s largest privately owned company. It has taken me to the Middle East and countless other places since 2013.

I’ve also been engaged by hundreds of small businesses. This is usually to give them direction on which channels could be of most benefit to their business.

If you joined Instagram, TikTok or another channel because you were told it was the place to be, and you don’t feel you’re getting much from it, speak to me. Different businesses can leverage very different results from social media channels. Knowing which is most suited to you and what and when you should be posting is critical.

Alternatively, you might be a multi-national organisation with a formal social media strategy that isn’t generating the engagement you want or providing the website referrals you’d hoped for. I can help examine your channel activity and give recommendations to deliver the results you seek.

I can advise you in a social media consulting session or over a longer period of time.

Do I offer web design and development services?

Nowadays, I usually stay out of website development. However, in some circumstances I may be able to help you.

If you want a Shopify e-commerce site, I will consider what you want and give you a quotation for the development of the site.

I may also consider developing a WordPress based informational/service site for you. It depends on what you want and whether I think you’d be better off going to a web design agency. Sometimes, their combination of graphic design and development may be more suited to you. I’m not a graphic designer, although I do occasionally work with design partners on an ad-hoc basis.

If you already have a website and want me to look at development issues or resolve items that are technical but not SEO related, I will tell you if I can get involved.

Can I help if you’re a large PLC board requiring consultancy?

Yes, whilst my SEO and e-commerce work tends to be dominated by SME’s or national retail groups, I can advise on almost any scale of e-commerce operation. This includes companies seeking advice on the benefits of globally expansive systems such as AWS.

Firstly, I have the experience to focus on 1, 3 or 5 year strategic solutions. Secondly, I can provide you with broad-scope views of your options and the trends in digital commerce. Alternatively, I can provide you with additional confidence for existing plans.

If you’re a PLC looking for expert advice on the opportunities that the web and available solutions might present you, my breadth of experience means that I can tailor my service to your vision and advise on appropriate solutions.

Finally, I can advise on a confidential basis in respect of your in-house operations. PLC’s occasionally find it challenging to ask internal teams, even at senior level, and receive a completely open answer.
