SEO Research
My SEO research is the cornerstone of many projects. It is essential to strategy, ranking goals, competition analysis and several other factors that deliver growth. I have extensive knowledge of SEO research techniques and resources, with the ability to interpret results and deliver clarity to business clients. It isn’t uncommon for me to reveal data and insights that a business was completely unaware of.
SEO research you can trust, from 25 years of experience and success.
My experience has taught me to spot trends, opportunities, weaknesses and loopholes during my SEO research work. Columns of data alongside keywords and phrases are largely meaningless without the ability to identify what they mean and, often, why face-value statistics need to be treated cautiously.
What does my SEO research work involve?
SEO Research Meeting
All research begins with identifying what data is required, and why.
I begin with an SEO research meeting with you, by video call (usually Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams), during which we explore what you want my research to include.
This can be the target phrases you know and think your audience is using, but often includes a broader assessment of who that audience is.
The latter allows me to find opportunities in your sector that you may have previously overlooked.
The research meeting also sets a timeframe during which I’ll report back on the results.
SEO Research Tools
I use the world’s best SEO tools in the gathering of data.
However, I also use a wide range of data crawling and gathering resources that allow me to exploit data from every possible source.
Using single SEO research tools gives you a point of failure and limited reach that my clients can’t afford.
Some of my tools and techniques are evolved from decades of coding experience and knowing how to automate crawls of the web for data.
I ensure you have all the advantages you need to get the data that can drive real business change.
Harvesting SEO Data
The harvesting of data for research is a combination of automated techniques with manual intervention, and completely manually driven research for accuracy.
The manual harvesting of data is very common when I spot opportunities or anomalies in data that could be exploited or reveal critical statistics and trends.
Harvesting is never a one-off process.
It is a multi-level investigation and fine-tuning of available data, continually reviewing potential new areas for research that data reveals.
Analysis of Harvested Data
Having the data at hand isn’t the end of the SEO research process.
I analyse all the data to be confident of it’s accuracy.
Data in isolation can be misleading, and it can occasionally be contaminated by spurious sources.
A good example of this is when I discovered that approximately 50% of all searches for “advertising agency” were conducted by the agencies themselves.
When you’re trying to identify your audience, it helps to know the traffic volumes are correct and won’t lead you down a wasteful path.
Interpretation of Data
Raw data is of little use to most businesses unless you interpret it and give it meaning.
I take the results of the harvesting and analysis stages and interpret them into vital, commercially important, information.
If you know that 300 people a month search for “leather sofas” in your region, what does that actually mean?
What is their intention, is it research or buying intent?
I interpret the raw data and provide accurate translations of what it could mean in your pursuit of keywords and phrases.
SEO Research Report
I provide all my clients with a report of the SEO research findings.
This can be supported by all the raw data (although it is often substantial!) if you wish.
It includes full summary findings, explanations of the analysis and interpretation of data, along with any important discoveries.
The report can also contain my recommendations in respect of what the SEO research should be driving you towards.
Ultimately, it gives you complete clarity on the real-world position you need to make critical business decisions.
Is SEO research necessary if you know the keywords you want to target?
I strongly recommend SEO research is conducted even if you know the words or phrases you want to target for ranking improvement. It is very common for the research to reveal opportunities that businesses are completely unaware of, including targets they have been missing out on because their consumer behaviour has changed or is different to that which they think it is online.
